Harare City Council health director Dr Prosper Chonzi said that council nurses have started returning to work after they were paid their October salaries on Wednesday.
Council officials and nurses’ representatives had a series of meetings which culminated in the payment of the salaries.
According to Dr Chonzi, by 5 pm on Thursday evening, all the 67 sisters in charge had turned up for duty while 44 out of the anticipated 176 nurses had also reported for work.
Nurses at Harare City Council clinics downed tools on Monday citing incapacitation and the move worsened the already dire public health delivery system in the city with doctors at major hospitals already on strike.
