Heavy Rains Expected Across The Whole Country

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has predicted significant rainfall activity across much of the country this week as a moist cloud band moves into the country from Botswana and Zambia.

In a statement on Saturday, MSD head of forecast Tichaona Zinyemba said:

A cloud band from Botswana and Zambia is expected to start affecting the western parts of Zimbabwe starting on Sunday (today).

It should move eastwards covering the whole country by Monday (tomorrow), which should result in moderate to heavy rains across the country.

These rains should persist in most areas for much of the week, with localised heavy falls (in excess of 50mm in 24 hours) in places.

Zinyemba advised members of the public to stay indoors and to stay away from metal objects and tall, isolated trees to avoid lightning strikes.

Motorists are advised to be wary of flash flooding and slippery roads as well as possible limited visibility during rainfall events.
