The return of Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga from China where he spent the last four months receiving medical attention has resulted in several theories coined including that he would dethrone his boss, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Meanwhile, political analyst Alexander Rusero is of the view that Chiwenga’s return is likely inconsequential since he is nothing but a ZANU PF agent.
Rusero further observes that the return serves to further buttress the known fact that Zimbabwe’s health sector is grounded and that doctors’ industrial action for salaries and better working conditions has not been met with the most favourable response from the government. Rusero added:
Yet he is coming from treatment in China which, without proper remuneration of doctors attending him, he could have died. That being said, a lot of hype on Chiwenga’s return and expectations as whispered in corridors of power will soon be demystified with time because he remains simply a Zanu PF functionary who cannot be better.
There were reports suggesting that Chiwenga was planning to dislodge Mnangagwa from power for the retired army boss’ poor health.
The expected coup allegedly got support from some citizens and opposition parties who are not happy with Mnangagwa’s leadership.
