Kaizer Chiefs Coach Says His Hands Are Tied On Khama Billiat

Kaizer Chiefs coach, Ernst Middendorp has revealed that his hands are tied on Khama Billiat when it comes to playing for Zimbabwe due to FIFA rules which provide that clubs should release players for international duty.

His remarks come as there is controversy after the Warriors forward played for Zimbabwe during the most recent international break when he had an injury which had kept him out of Kaizer Chiefs matches. The injury worsened that when he returned, he could not play and Amakhosi suffered because of his absence.

The Kaizer Chiefs gaffer told reporters that there was no communication between him and Zimbabwe which further worsens the situation. He added:

Serving the country is important, serving the country in Zambia, in Zimbabwe, in South Africa is important and that’s fine, it is a given situation so I have to send (the players), FIFA rules are there, even if he has a broken arm or leg, we have to send them.

Billiat played for Zimbabwe and scored a brace against Zambia, enhancing Warriors chances of qualifying for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Billiat’s case resembles that of Real Madrid striker, Gareth Bale who is usually fit for Wales even when he would have been sidelined at Madrid.
