Registrar General's Office Set To Introduce Booking System For Passport Applicants - Cabinet Minister

The Registrar-General’s office is set to introduce a booking system for passport applicants so as to reduce commotion at the Registrar’s offices.

Speaking on Thursday after making a surprise visit to Chinoyi passport offices, the minister of state for Mashonaland west provincial affairs, Mary Mliswa said:

We have talked to the passport officers, let us be organised we can not all be served today, I have negotiated with them to increase the number of serving desks from 10 to a better number. We have also agreed on a booking system.

Her remarks come as elongated queues of passport seekers have resurfaced at Registrar General’s office with reports suggesting that some who are more “desperate” are sleeping at the offices.

The office has a huge backlog going back to 2018 and is producing an insignificant number of passports per day which adds to the displeasure of citizens who are determined to skip the country’s borders to escape the biting economy.
