The former secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) Mthabisi Anele Bhebhe has vowed that doctors will not return to work until the government gives them a living wage.
Writing on Twitter, Bhebhe added that the doctors have rejected Strive Masiyiwa’s offer through the Higher Life Foundation (HLF) as simply not good enough. He said:
To confirm our true position; today we enter day 92 in trenches, fighting for a living wage.
We’ll not rest until we are paid a respectable salary.Mr Strive Masiyiwa’s offer was simply not good enough to end the current medical crisis.
ZHDA on Monday morning issued a statement accusing Masiyiwa of trying to arm-twist us into accepting his offer.
They rejected the offer because “members are now being forced to sign assumption of duty, which is now forcing our members back to work”.
