Lightning Bolt Robs Farmer Of 10 Cattle

A farmer in Gwanda lost 10 head of cattle and two goats after they were struck by a bolt of lightning on Friday afternoon.

According to Ward 9 councillor Mozitha Moyo, Jeconia Nyathi from Lushongwe Village watched in horror as lightning struck his cattle moments before a thunderstorm. Said Moyo:

There is a farmer from my ward, Mr Jeconia Nyathi who lost 10 head of cattle and two goats after they were struck by lightning.

Mr Nyathi had just finished giving his animals stock feed just outside his homestead.

As he turned to leave just as it was about to rain, lightning struck and killed his animals as he looked on in disbelief.

Lighting has wreaked havoc across the country since the onset of the 2019/20 rainy season with 17 human deaths having been recorded so far.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecasted more heavy rains accompanied by strong winds which increases the likelihood of more destruction of infrastructure.
