Norton legislator (Independent) Temba Mliswa has observed that the electorate in Zimbabwe is slowly becoming demoralised and less interest in politics. He posted on Twitter and said:
Also becoming apparent is that people are losing interest in politics, especially party politics. They are fatigued with constant attrition. The high voter turnout in the last election was mere excitement at the novelty of an election with new faces @nelsonchamisa & @edmnangagwa.
In a scenario of a tired electorate, they will be a low voter turnout& this will always favour the chances for the incumbent party. Going forward @MDCAllianceZW must focus on reforms, @ZECzim to ensuring the same mistakes are not repeated& we don’t get held back on the same issues.
Some members of the public have pointed out that the elections are never effective in Zimbabwe and the rest of Africa since they are “always manipulated”.
Meanwhile, the opposition MDC has vowed not to participate in the 2023 elections if the current leadership of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is still in office saying that they have failed to run a credible election.
Authorities have indicated however that they are currently seized with the implementation of intertwined electoral, media, political, legislative and other reforms which the international community listed as a prerequisite for reengaging the struggling Southern African country.
