Senior Cop In Hot Soup Over Stolen SA Vehicle

A senior Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer based in Beitbridge is being investigated for fraudulently releasing a vehicle that was kept as an exhibit.

The car, a Ford Ranger, was intercepted and held by the Criminal Investigations Department after it was stolen from South Africa and went missing while police in the neighbouring country was waiting for its return.

The senior cop being investigated allegedly released the vehicle when a large number of police officers were being transferred.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that the suspect authorised the release of the vehicle without following procedure and that police will leave no stone unturned in their investigations.
