MDC Spokesperson Sheds Light On The Party's Proposed Transitional Authority

MDC spokesperson Daniel Molekele told the media on Friday that his party is pushing for the formation of a transitional authority to be headed by a respected judge or civic society leader for two or three years leading to the holding of credible elections.

Molekele said the transitional mechanism will have to be guaranteed by SADC, UN and AU. He said:

A national transitional mechanism is a different concept altogether because with GNU the political parties in Parliament must form a government, but in this, we are saying all stakeholders in Zimbabwe must form a temporary government.

This means that the president must not come from any political party, but can be a respected former judge or civic society leader. The leader is given a two to three-year period to ensure that we have a transitional process to have comprehensive reforms.

Molekele said the MDC will not take part in the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) which he said are an extension of Zanu PF.

He said that his party did not invite former South African President Thabo Mbeki to Zimbabwe, adding that the talks between ZANU PF and MDC have not yet begun.
