MSD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall, People Advised To Be Cautious

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has advised members of the public to be cautious during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall as localised flash flooding remains possible.

In an interview with The Herald on Wednesday, MSD meteorologist Charity Denhere said that even though the light rains falling this week had produced no floods, hail, lightning and flash flooding were a probability going forward due to high temperatures experienced over the past several weeks. She said:

The department will continue monitoring the conditions and update the public accordingly.

The public is also being requested to provide feedback or information on disasters.

On Tuesday, Victoria Falls received 30mm of rain, whilst Mhondoro received 25mm, Karoi and Kariba 15mm and the rest of the country 10mm or less.

Denhere said that on Friday heavier storms are predicted for Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Masvingo and southern areas of Midlands

There is, therefore, a high chance of flooding in urban areas while insecure home roofs, schools and shopping centres could be blown off by strong winds.
