Social Media Video Of Job Sikhala Vowing "To Overthrow" ED To Be Used As Evidence In Court

The state intends to use a social media video footage as evidence against opposition MDC vice-chairperson, Job Sikhala in a case in which he is accused of subversion of a constitutionally established government.

Sikhala was arrested in July and was charged with subversion after he remarked that the MDC will overthrow president Emmerson Mnangagwa before 2023.

New Zimbabwe reports that investigating officer, Detective Inspector Arimoni Mirimbo confirmed in state papers that investigations for the case is set to be heard on 27 January at Masvingo’s High Court were done on Facebook and Twitter. Mirimbo’s statement reads:

Investigations were carried out and it was established that Twitter and Facebook and other social media platforms were awash with a video of the accused person making utterances at the said campaign rally.

On the same date, I had the opportunity to view and listen to the video clip and established the utterances…

Sikhala is denying the alleged crime saying that he meant that he and his party will overthrow hunger and other ills bedevilling the country.

In a video which circulated on social media, Sikhala, however, Sikhala is heard saying that Mnangagwa will be a goner by 2023 when the next elections are scheduled to be held.
