Zimbabwe Exempted From AFCTA's Free Trade Provisions

Zimbabwe has been exempted from African Continental Free Trade Area’s free trade provisions and rules for the next 15 years ZBC News reports. This means there will be free movement of Zimbabwean goods and people without any limitations according to the publication.

This was revealed by Foreign Minister Sibusiso Moyo who was speaking yesterday in Harare ahead of the World Economic Forum to be held in Davos later this month. Minister Moyo said:

The AFCFTA is going to allow the free movement of goods and people without any limitations and this will bring huge benefits to intra-African trade.

However, Zimbabwe will be spared for the next fifteen years because if we do that right away, we become a dumping ground of goods because at the moment we are not producing enough.
