Kariba Dam Water Levels Improve

Water levels at Kariba Dam exponentially rose in December The Sunday Mail reports. The dam which is designed to operate at 485 meters had dropped to 476 meters at the peak of 2019’s drought. However, according to the publication water levels have risen to 482 meters since the rainy season started.

This was further confirmed by the Zambezi River authority which said:

Flows at Ngonye increased due to sporadic rainfall activities being recorded around the catchment, closing the week at 426 cubic metres per second on 27th December 2019, while last year’s flow on the same date was 295 cubic metres per second.

The Zambezi River flows through Nana’s Farm station have been increasing due to records of rainfall activities on the catchment, closing the week under review at 362 cubic metres per second on 27th December 2019. The flow observed on the same date last year was 293 cubic metres per second.

Kariba HEP is the country’s biggest electricity production plant with the capacity to generate 1050 MW.
