ZRP officers shot dead a smuggler in Vumba and arrested 6 others after they intercepted them smuggling bales into the country, The Herald reports.
According to ZRP, the suspects who were using a convoy of 9 vehicles were signalled to stop and they refused which prompted the police to open fire at the convoy killing one person in the mayhem.
The incident was confirmed by Assitant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said:
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has intercepted a convoy of two-seven tonne trucks, three commuter omnibuses and four small vehicles laden with bales of smuggled goods along Vumba Road after a shooting which resulted in the arrest of six suspects and the death of one of the suspects.
ZRP reportedly recovered 170 bales at the scene.
