Former Kenyan President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi has passed away. He was 95. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta announced his death earlier this morning and said:
It is with profound sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of a Great African Statesman, H.E Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, the second president of the Republic of Kenya.
The former president passed on at the Nairobi Hospital on the early morning of 4th February 2020, in the presence of his family.
Moi was the Kenyan President for 24 years from 1978 to 2002. He was succeeded by Mwai Kibaki. He took over from Jomo Kenyatta on 22 August 1978.
