The leader of the opposition MDC, advocate Nelson Chamisa has urged his supporters to soldier on despite the hardships they are facing in trying to dislodge the ZANU PF government from power.
Addressing supporters in Bindura said over the weekend, Chamisa said that the MDC had found a way to challenge ZANU PF’s hegemony in rural areas, therefore, “freedom was nigh.” He said:
We need to be brave, it is time for us to put bravery ahead of everything else because we are almost getting there. We are about to deliver freedom to this country, a new beginning and prosperity, the dawn is upon us. Let us not give up hope, let us keep pressing.
His remarks come when the general populace is lamenting over the socio-economic crisis in the country which is characterised by inflation, acute shortage in food, fuel and electricity.
In the past, the ruling ZANU PF dominated the rural vote which has been decisive in the previous elections. There is consensus among analysts that the MDC needs to have the rural vote for it to take power from ZANU PF.
