Lawyers representing Chiwundura MDC MP Livingstone Chimina have accused the witness in the case for being a CIO implant coached to fabricate evidence, Newsday reports.
The matter came to light during cross-examination when Chimina’s lawyer questioned the witness Rumbidzai Waungana if it was a coincidence that she was a witness on 2 other cases involving the MP. Wellington Davira asked:
Is it by coincidence that you happened to be a witness in the two cases involving the MP; one which happened in Mkoba and another at Kudzanayi rank in town on different dates? How come you were there at those scenes right when the alleged crimes happened?
I want to put it to you that you have been coached and you are giving fabricated evidence for reasons best known to yourself. MP Chimina on that day never visited Kudzanayi rank and you never saw him,
Waungana gave conflicting testimony to the statement she gave the police and said she saw the Chimina assaulting the plaintiff with a machete despite the plaintiff saying he never sustained injuries during the assault. Furthermore, Waungana could not identify the clothes the MP was wearing on that day.
