Warriors To Play Algeria In Soweto

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has secured South Africa’s Orlando Stadium as the venue for Zimbabwe’s 2021 AFCON qualifier against Algeria.

The Herald quotes its sources as saying that ZIFA chief executive, Joseph Mamutse, on Monday signed a contract with his South African Football Association counterparts for the match to be held at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. The publication’s sources said:

Mamutse is here in SA for a FIFA workshop, he met with SAFA (officials) today and signed the agreement, the match is at Orlando Stadium.

Some ZIFA guys are likely to travel to Johannesburg on Wednesday or Thursday to work on the logistics.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) last month banned all Zimbabwean stadiums saying they do not meet the minimum standards to host international matches.

The country has been using Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo for international matches over the past few months before CAF’s blanket ban.
