The local football calendar has been thrown into disarray after the start of the 2020 Castle Lager Premiership season was postponed.
This follows the Government’s decision to ban all gatherings of at least 100 people for the next 60 days.
Premier Soccer League (PSL) spokesperson, Kudzai Bare, on Tuesday said they would be guided by the Government’s intervention. She said:
The PSL season has not started yet but we stand guided by the President and the Government.
We will be announcing our programme in due course.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) also said that as a law-abiding institution, it will abide by the Government position. Spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela said:
AS Zifa, we are law-abiding and respect our Government. We will comply with Government directives and the interest of public safety.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday announced a ban on all public gatherings in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.
While Zimbabwe is yet to officially confirm its first coronavirus case, its neighbour and major trading partner, South Africa, has recorded 116 cases to date.
