"We Hope Most Of The Hospitals' Staff Are Receiving Protective Clothing Today," - Doctors Association

The president of the Progressive Doctors Association of Zimbabwe (PDAZ), Dr Benson Dandiro yesterday said that they had hope that most workers in government hospitals will be receiving protective clothing this Thursday.

He denied reports which said doctors were downing tools over possible exposure to coronavirus as they were working without protective clothing.

Speaking to The Herald, Dandiro impressed upon the government to ensure that all healthcare workers at all levels, from the nurses, doctors, cleaners, to admin staff are protected.

We hope by Thursday (today) most of the hospitals’ staff will receive their protective clothing… Our members are at work. No one has downed tools as we speak. We are committed to provide service to the nation, but we are appealing to the Government to provide protective clothing to health workers. As we speak our members are at their work stations.

A letter purported to be from the president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) announced that the association’s members were, with immediate effect, withdrawing their services due to possible exposure to the virus.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Obadiah Moyo told the Herald that the government was working hard to make sure all health caregivers were protected adding that they will be given a risky allowance.
