"We Should Have Simply Followed The Constitution When Tsvangirai Died," - Ex-MDC Spokesperson

Obert Gutu, the former spokesperson for the opposition MDC during the Morgan Tsvangirai’s era has said that he feels exonerated by the Supreme Court ruling that reinstated Thokozani Khupe as the leader of the party.

Gutu is one of MDC officials who opposed the ascension of Nelson Chamisa to the post of president when Tsvangirai died in 2018.

He resigned from the post of spokesperson and the party and eventually joined Thokozani Khupe in the MDC-T where he was elected Vice President.

Commenting on the recent Supreme Court ruling, Gutu said:

I feel happy with the judgment because from the first day we should have followed the constitution and the courts have now vindicated us.

I am in exhilaration and happiness because we were right, we should have simply followed the constitution when Morgan Tsvangirai died and allow Khupe to take over as acting President and we go for extraordinary congress.

It is not clear whether Gutu will rebound into politics after he also resigned from Khupe-led MDC-T.

He, however, left many guessing when or if he will come back after he said that, in the fullness of time, he will make a statement with regards to his future.
