Ronadinho Pays R29 Million Bail To Be Released From Paraguay Jail

Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldinho with his brother and business manager Roberto Assis have been released from Paraguay jail and placed in house arrest after they bail of $1.6 million (R29 million).

The former Barcelona midfielder and his brother was arrested on March 6 accused of possessing doctored Paraguayan passports with a lawyer for the pair claiming their detention was “arbitrary, abusive and illegal”.

The was allowed into a local hotel while they await their trial with the “significant bail in cash” meant to “guarantee they will not flee.

Reports suggest that the duo deposited $800 000 each into a local bank account on Tuesday. Ronaldinho who is 40 years old last played professionally in 2015.

At the peak of his career, Ronaldinho was named the best player in the world winning twice the Fifa World Player of the Year – in 2004 and 2005.

He also won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2006.
