The newly reinstated MDC-T national organising secretary, Abednico Bhebhe who is also an ally of Thokozani Khupe is reportedly against the holding of an extraordinary congress.
The congress was, as ordered by the Supreme Court, meant to elect a new president to replace the late founding leader, Morgan Tsvangirai.
Bhebhe told New Zimbabwe in an interview that the divisions in the party work to the advantage of the ruling ZANU PF. He said:
The current situation plays well into the hands of Zanu PF. Zanu PF always thrives on a divided opposition. In my view, the best way to solve this political impasse is for the two warring MDC factions to sit down and dialogue. The party needs to re-unite itself and be strong like what it was when it was formed in 1999.
He also said that Khupe and Nelson Chamisa must have a dialogue to iron out their differences. He added that the party structures must be in agreement on the course of action to be taken.
Douglas Mwonzora, Morgen Komichi and Elias Mudzuri are the senior party officials who have so far rallied behind Supreme Court ruling which reinstated Khupe as the party leader.
