Disaster Looms As Returnees Use 'A Communal Bathroom And Share Toilets' At Belvedere

Concern has been raised about the well-being of Zimbabwean citizens who are quarantined at Belvedere Teachers’ Technical College following heir return from the United Kingdom on Monday.

Two of the returnees tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

The returnees are reportedly using a communal bathroom and sharing toilets and the virus could easily be transmitted under such conditions.

Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono tweeted:

This is a MASSIVE disaster since these people are using a communal bathroom & sharing toilets.

Imagine the infection explosion that will happen at Belvedere Teachers college quarantine Center if they continue living like this.

The horse might have bolted with infections.

Tragic!

The Ministry of Health and Child Care, in a statement on Wednesday, said two of the three people who recently tested positive for COVID-19 were returnees from Britain. The statement read in part:

Case #26 reported yesterday is a 49-year-old male resident of Harare who recently returned from the United Kingdom. He is symptomatic, with mild-moderate disease and is receiving medical management under mandatory isolation.

Case #28 also reported yesterday is a 25-year-old male resident of Harare who recently returned from the United Kingdom. He is asymptomatic, with mild disease and is recovering under mandatory isolation.
