Former Sables Player Sanele “Smiley” Sibanda Dies

A Zimbabwe-born UK based Rugby player Sanele Sibanda has died, Sunday News reports. The 29-year-old Smiley died on the 1st of May in a car accident. Sanele played for the Sables from 2010 until last year before he moved to the UK.

His death was reportedly announced by his brother Libone on social media on Monday in a post that reads:

It’s with deepest sadness and sorrow to inform you of the untimely death our beloved Sanele Nkosana Sibanda. Sanele, affectionately known as Smiley sadly passed away on the 1st of May due to a car accident.

Zimbabwe Rugby Union mourned Sanele in a statement that said:

It is with great sadness that the Zimbabwe Rugby Union announces the passing of Sanele Nkosana ‘Smiley’ Sibanda, a Sables stalwart in an unfortunate automobile accident. The ZRU would like to extend their condolences to the Sibanda family. May they be comforted during this sad time. Gone too soon Sanele Smiley Sibanda

The Rugby fraternity has reportedly taken to social media to mourn the death of one of their own.
