The Deputy Minister of Health and Care, John Mangwiro has said Intensive Care Units (ICUs) at health institutions including Wilkins and Parirenyatwa hospitals in Harare that were designated for infectious diseases, are almost ready for coronavirus.
Mangwiro made the remarks on Friday after touring Wilkins, Chitungwiza and Parirenyatwa in the company of Harare Metropolitan Minister, Oliver Chidau. He said:
We have come to see the progress, where the obstacles are and removing them, making sure we are ready for COVID-19.
Wilkins and Parirenyatwa are le ft with hyper filters which are coming this weekend. By Monday, all ICUs at these hospitals will be ready to admit patients.
I was here about two weeks ago and they (contractors) were actually starting, but today, the rooms are much improved.
His remarks are a confirmation that the country was not prepared for the pandemic which is contrary to what other government officials were saying a few months ago.
