Deported Returnees Arrested For Theft, Attempted Murder At Quarantine Centres

Four Zimbabwean returnees from South Africa, Fanuel Mapaiki, Allen Mungai, Garikai Tawanda and Tinotenda Chigwande have been arrested for theft, unlawful entry and attempted at Prince Edward Quarantine Centre.

Mapaiki, Mungai and Chigwade were arrested for theft and unlawful entry while Tawanda was arrested for attempted murder after stabbing another returnee with a pair of scissors.

The quartet who had already been separated from the rest of the group they returned with after they also caused chaos at Harare Polytechnic, is now quarantined in remand prison cells for an unspecified period of time.

The arrests were confirmed by national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi who said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Fanuel Mapaiki (22), Allen Mungai (30) and Tinotenda Chigwande (25) on May 15 at Prince Edward Quarantine Centre.

The court heard that Tawanda approached Munashe Razawo, who was also isolated at Prince Edward School and stabbed him in the stomach several times following a misunderstanding. Ruzawo was rushed to the hospital.

The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare said the other three allegedly broke into the housemaster’s house, stole valuables from student lockers in the hostels and also tried to steal from teachers’ cars.
