"Each School Must Go Commercial," - Primary And Secondary Education Minister

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Cain Mathema has said schools need to devise revenue mobilising strategies to address financial problems they are facing.

He made the remarks in Gweru where he was attending a meeting on the state of preparedness in reopening schools this week. He said:

It’s about time we start proper planning for our future. Each school must go commercial. We need to come up with quality products that can be accepted by the market. There should be no compromise on this.

I’m happy that the Midlands Province can now produce enough PPEs from its schools. My vision is to see schools contributing to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

He said it should be a thing of the past for schools to entirely depend upon the government for funding. These remarks are made when some schools have been raising school fees in a bid to meet their financial obligations.

The fees increase imposed a huge burden on parents and guardians who are already struggling to make ends meet in an economy choked by inflation and other ills.
