Mamombe's ZANU PF Supporting 'Fiance' Speaks On Abduction

The owner of the Mercedes Benz which was being driven by the legislator for Harare West (MDC-Alliance) Joanna Mamombe on the day she was arrested and allegedly abducted is apparently a ZANU PF member closely related to the first family.

The man, Andrew Manongore told The Sunday Mail that he was indeed the owner of the car which Mamombe, whom he referred to as his fiance, used on the day in question.

Manongore told The Sunday Mail that he feared that Mamombe could have been influenced by her ex-lover, Mfundo Mlilo to embark on the flash hunger protest that got her arrested. Ironically, the NewsDay of 19 May 2020 addresses Mfundo Mlilo as Mamombe’s husband.

Manongore said:

He is said to be a dubious character who can do anything for money. I am suspecting that this guy could have influenced my girlfriend to engage in demonstrations during a pandemic. Although we support different political parties, we have not had a problem until now and I am sure some other forces misled her.

Mamombe, together with Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova who are also MDC officials, was allegedly abducted by suspected state security agents from police custody on 13 May following the demo.

Manongore’s car which Mamombe was using was found parked at Harare Central Police Station where they were taken on the day of the arrest.

The Minister of Home Affairs says the alleged abduction was likely staged adding that a number of issues do not add up.

Meanwhile, the state has not yet explained how the trio that was in police custody was found in Bindura several kilometres away from Harare.
