Chamisa Pleads With Local Govt Minister Not To Recall Councillors

The leader of the opposition MDC Alliance, Nelson Chamisa has pleaded with the Minister of Local Government, July Moyo asking him not to recall councillors as had been ordered by the reinstated MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe.

Chamisa argued through his lawyers, Mbidzo, Muchadehama and Makoni Legal Practitioners, that Khupe and the MDC-T Secretary-General Douglas Mwonzora had no authority to recall councillors that were elected on MDC Alliance ticket in the elections held on July 30, 2018.

In a letter dated June 1, 2020, Chamisa said:

Mwonzora is not the secretary-general of the MDC Alliance. In light of the above, we kindly implore you not to accept any recall of any councillor elected or appointed under the banner of the MDC Alliance pursuant to the July 30, 2018 election. We further implore you not to act on any letter written by Mwonzora, (Morgen) Komichi, Khupe or MDC-T. In the event that you act in favour of Mwonzora and those acting on his behalf, your actions will be challenged in court.

This comes after Khupe and Mwonzora have since recalled four MDC Alliance MPs saying they had left the MDC-T their party that was in the MDC Alliance.
