Health Minister Obadiah Moyo has been arrested by ZRP and is currently detained at Rhodesvile Police. This was posted by Journalist Brezh Malaba who tweeted and said:
Health minister Obadiah Moyo has been arrested. He’s at Rhodesville police station. It’s in connection with procurement contract corruption.
Obadiah was reportedly arrested by ZACC yesterday and according to sources he was questioned and released. ZACC, however, denied that they did not arrest the minister.
However this evening ZACC commissioner John Makamure confirmed his arrest and said:
Yes, he has been arrested and is in detention. That’s all I can say for now.
Moyo is facing charges of corruption after it emerged that he handpicked companies not on the procurement register to supply the ministry with medical supplies. His exact charges are yet to be released.
Zimbabweans led by Hopewell Chin’ono have been calling for the arrest of the minister after details of gross corruption in the procurement of COVID-19 material surfaced.
