NewsDay has said it boggles the mind to think that state security forces are not responsible for human rights abuses which are being reported in the country.
These remarks come when the state has denied involvement in the alleged abduction and torture of three MDC Alliance trio, Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova.
The state has on numerous occasions suggested that the G40 faction and an unidentified third force were probably behind the alleged atrocities to soil the government’s image.
Commenting on human rights abuses in the country and the government’s response, NewsDay said:
If denials by the Zimbabwe National Army and the Zimbabwe Republic Police are to be taken for truth, our country has certainly become a dangerous place to live and invest in, where marauding bogus army and police officers can do things at will, cause suffering to the people even in broad daylight and get away with it.
Zimbabwe has often featured on the list of ‘safe’ countries globally due to absence of threat from terror groups, local or otherwise.
The opposition MDC and the international community, as well as some human rights defenders, are of the conviction that the ruling ZANU PF and state security forces are responsible for the shrinking democratic space in the country.
