Govt Designates 4 New Dry Ports In Zimbabwe

The Ministry of Finance has designated places in Mutare, Masvingo, Bulawayo and Makuti to be used dry ports in Zimbabwe in a bid to increase economic activity for Zimbabwe through connecting it to other Southern African countries, The Herald reports.

The move was further made possible by the Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube gazetting Statutory Instrument 55 of 2020 that will see the 4 named areas becoming the country’s ports for commercial cargo to be consigned to pending final clearance.

Mthuli was quoted last year explaining why the country needed the dry ports:

We want to make sure that our brothers and sisters in the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) and Katanga province don’t go all the way to Johannesburg to import their goods. They must come to Makuti.

The government also designated a place in Ngundu along the Beitbridge Masvingo High way and Rutenga growth points to be the country’s other dry ports.
