Harare City Council Closes Polyclinics

The Harare City Council has closed some of its clinics in northern suburbs due to a shortage of nurses.

In a memorandum, City Health authorities notified residents that Mt Pleasant, Avondale and Borrowdale clinics have been closed until further notice. The memo read:

Good Afternoon to you all Could you please note that Mt Pleasant, Avondale and Borrowdale clinics have been closed until further notice, the reason being that there is a shortage of nurses.

You are urged to visit Mabelreign Clinic and Hatcliffe for medical assistance. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted.

City of Harare has 65 clinics, with 12 of these being polyclinics. Polyclinics are the first port of call for expecting mothers as they deliver babies there.

Of the 65, 12 clinics including Mbare Polyclinic and Highfield Polyclinic remain open.

Other open clinics include Parirenyatwa Primary Care Centre, Hatfield Satellite Clinic, Budiriro Satellite, Glen View Poly, Tariro Satellite, Kuwadzana Poly and Tafara Family Health Clinic.

Also open is Hatcliffe Poly and Mabvuku Poly with the rest closed.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Urban and Rural Nurses Workers Union president Simbarashe Tafirenyika said that instead of closing clinics, health authorities must address nurses grievances of proper remuneration and adequate PPEs.
