Zimbabwe Records 154 New Coronavirus Cases, 10 COVID-19 Deaths

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has announced that 154 new cases ad 10 deaths were recorded today, 3 August 2020.

In a statement this evening, the Ministry also revealed that 137 808 cumulative of tests have been done to date. The statement read:

One-hundred and fifty-four (154) cases tested positive for COVID-19 today. These are all local cases who are isolated.

New recoveries were reported by the following provinces; Manicaland (27), Matabeleland North (8) and Mashonaland West (6).

Today we regret to report ten (10) facility deaths. The deaths include 4 females and 4 males from Harare Province, 1 male from Mashonaland West Province and 1 male from Matabeleland South Province.

Today 2 150 RDT screening tests and 1 449 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 137 808 (73 174 RDT and 64 634 PCR).

Since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak on 20 March 2020, the total number of confirmed cases is 4 075; recovered 1057, active cases 2 938 and 80 deaths.

… Definition of death due to COVID-19 for surveillance purposes is a death resulting from a clinically compatible illness, in a probable or confirmed COVID-19 case, unless there is a clear alternative cause of death that cannot be related to COVID disease leg trauma, Diabetes, Asthma, Hypertension, etc.).

There should be no period of complete recovery from COVID-19 between illness and death.

Death due to COVID-19 may not be attributed to another disease e.g.l eg cancer and should be counted independently of pre-existing conditions that are suspected of triggering a severe course of COVID-19.
