According to MISA Zimbabwe Tanzania has tightened laws surrounding local media houses aggregating and covering content from foreign media houses, to include a clause that says local media houses will need to seek permission from the Tanzanian Government to broadcast content from foreign media outlets.
According to the organisation:
Under the new regulations, local media houses are now required to seek permission from the government before broadcasting content from foreign media outlets.
The Tanzanian Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), decreed that local media should apply for a separate licence, which will allow them to broadcast content from foreign media on their channels.
Tanzanian media must re-register and may not broadcast programmes of foreign partners until a new licence is granted, according to the new regulations.
This according to MISA Zimbabwe, this means outlets that have partnered with international outlets like BBC and Germany’s Deutsche Welle (DW) will be affected by such a law.
This came a few short days after Tanzania also banned social media protests and issued more strict media laws.
