Mwonzora, Komichi Deny Revenge Recalls Claims

The Secretary-General and the Vice Chairman of the court resurrected MDC T 2014 structures, Douglas Mwonzora and Morgen Komich have both denied rumours by different MDC T insiders that the MDC T is plotting revenge recalls after their candidate Luckson Mukunguma lost to MDC Alliance candidate Jacob Mafume who was elected Harare Mayor on Thursday last week, The Standard reports.

A source told the publication that after Mukunguma’s defeat, the MDC T held an emergency meeting and decided to recall 11 Harare councillors. However both Komichi and Mwonzora denied the claims. Mwonzora said:

The best person to talk to is the spokesperson [Khaliphani Phugeni] or the national chairperson. I was in the meeting briefly. Maybe something like that was discussed, but it is not true. When we make recalls, we will tell the whole country. We don’t just recall, we recall pursuant to certain misdeeds. There is no truth in that.

While Komichi said:

We had a postmortem of the elections of mayors. We just made discussions, but no decision was made to recall anyone.

Meanwhile, Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume called on MDC T leaders to behave with maturity as he said these recalls will paralyse service delivery. However, a source that spoke to the publication said the Khupe led faction’s aim was to paralyse the council and let the government take over and appoint a commission to run the council till 2023.
