Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care reported that the Southern African country recorded another coronavirus death yesterday 15 December 2020.
In a statement, the ministry said the single death was recorded in Harare and is part of the 164 new cases recorded within the last 24 hours.
Zimbabwe has of late seen a surge in the number of new coronavirus cases after months of recording very few cases per day.
Most of the cases recorded lately are not returning citizens but local cases which means there is community transmission.
In total, Zimbabwe now has 310 known COVID-19 related deaths since March when the first fatality was recorded.
Authorities are contemplating reimposing strict conditions on some cities including Bulawayo where most of the cases were recorded.
Meanwhile, the government is adamant that even when some schools have been hit by the virus, the 2020 school calendar will not be suspended.
Some learning institutions that were hit by the virus have however since been sealed off.
