Zimbabwe Records 5 More COVID-19 Deaths

Zimbabwe recorded five more Covid-19 deaths on Monday 28 December pushing the overall death toll to 354 since March when the pandemic first hit the country.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care said deaths were reported by Bulawayo, Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Masvingo provinces who recorded one death each.

In a statement issued yesterday, the ministry observed that Zimbabwe recorded 71 new Covid-19 cases, of which 69 were local transmissions while two were imports.

The statement also indicated that Zimbabwe recorded 112 new recoveries, leaving the national recovery rate at 81,4 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases is now 2 089 while the total number of officially known cases since March has risen to 13 148 while recoveries were at 10 705 as of yesterday.

zimbabwe has banned big gatherings this festive season and plans to de-congest all ports of entry in an endeavour to combat the spread of the novel virus.

Authorities have also been warning against complacency at the backdrop of a second wave in the country and detection of an aggressive coronavirus variant in some jurisdictions.
