A health expert has warned the public not to lower their guard simply because new coronavirus infections have considerably gone down over the weeks.
In its daily COVID-19 update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) said 23 new infections and 1 death were recorded on Tuesday, 13 April 2021.
Mpilo acting chief executive Professor Solwayo Ngwenya said the most dangerous time is between waves because fighting the COVID-19 pandemic is no longer prioritised as the situation will be resembling normalcy. He tweeted:
Coronavirus: the most dangerous time is “in-between waves” when the populations are complacent, the hospital beds are empty, governments don’t want to listen to “alarmists”, and businesses are counting money! Then booooooom! Do NOT become part of the grim statistics. Be smart!
Some health experts have warned of a potential coronavirus third wave in Zimbabwe considering that several countries have already experienced the phenomenon and locals have become very complacent.
Recently, some boarding schools recorded alarming coronavirus cases by the government has moved to assure the public that the situation is under control.
Last month Professor Ngwenya warned that it’s just a matter of time before Zimbabwe experiences a deadly coronavirus third wave following the relaxation of lockdown restrictions.
The approaching winter, the emergence of new variants of the disease, and the improper wearing of face masks and zero social distancing in public spaces by members of the public are perfect conditions for another devastating COVID-19 wave. He said:
The third wave is loading, all the ingredients needed for it are being made, new variants, relaxing populations and the winter is approaching.
My predictions are that the third wave will appear suddenly, in a massive form and kill many people, especially in Africa.
