UPDATE: Gweru Shooting Victims Recovering, Still Fearful

Two Gweru shooting victims are recovering from the wounds they sustained from the shooting but they are living in fear that the gunmen might come back again.

The sisters were discharged from the hospital while the other one underwent successful surgery.

The fatal shooting incident claimed the lives of a Kwekwe gold and car dealer Shelton Chinhango and his alleged girlfriend Gamuchirai Mudungwe.

The suspected killer who is a car dealer, Peter Dube aged 35 is still on the run with fears that he might have skipped the border to Mozambique a situation that is giving survivors and their relatives’ sleepless nights. Ishmael Nharingo, the father to the victims updated:

_Well, I can confirm that one of my daughters is now out of the hospital. The other one had surgery where a bullet was removed from her head and is now out of the ICU. It’s been a traumatising experience as we are trying to come to terms with what happened._

Speaking to the ZBC News Crew, Nyasha Nharingo, one of the shooting victims and wife to the alleged killer said it was painful to consider that her husband would do that. She said:

I’m at pains to understand what became of my husband. We were already on separation after he beat me up in January. Shelton was trying to help me in all the mess. Previously he was never abusive until the January incident. It’s really painful and now that he has not been caught am still fearing for my life and my loved ones.

The Gweru shooting incident which left the community in shock has prompted the Joint Operation Command in the province to revisit the guns issued in the region with a view to recall some of the ammunition issued.
