Masisi Invites Opposition Leader To Accompany Him To Hichilema's Inauguration

The president of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, has invited Dumelang Saleshando, the leader of the Opposition in Botswana to accompany him to the inauguration of the Zambian President-Elect Hakainde Hichilema.

The inauguration is scheduled for this Tuesday. Pindula News presents a statement by the Botswana government on the matter.

REBUTTAL TO UFM NEWS CAPTIONED “ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT INVITES SALESHANDO TO HIS INAUGURATION”

GABORONE, 23rd August 2021: The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation wishes to refer to a recent post by the online UFM News circulating on social media platforms, entitled “Zambian President invites Saleshando”. The said post inaccurately states that His Excellency Mr. Hakainde S. Hichilema, President-Elect of the Republic of Zambia, extended an invitation to the Leader of the Opposition, Honourable Mr. Dumelang Saleshando to attend the President-Elect’s Inauguration Ceremony on 24th August 2021.

The Ministry wishes to underscore that the post by UFM News is misleading. Accordingly, the Ministry wishes to categorically correct this inaccuracy by setting the record straight that His Excellency President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, has extended an invitation to the Leader of Opposition to accompany him to the inauguration of the Zambian President-Elect in the spirit of cordial relations that exist among political leadership of Botswana and inclusiveness. His Excellency the President has also invited Former President Mr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae.

Therefore, the post’s inaccuracy ignores the fundamental reality of His Excellency’s efforts to be all-inclusive. It instead, reinforces untruths that are polarizing.
