Maid Sentenced For Bashing Employer's Son (10)

A domestic worker from Mutare’s Chikanga 1 suburb has been sentenced to 70 hours of community service for constantly battering her employer’s 10-year-old son.

Nyembesi Masodzi Chirara (38) was recently convicted by Mutare magistrate, Prisca Manhibi for contravening Section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

She was convicted on her own guilty plea.

Prosecutor Sharon Chibvongodze said on 26 August Chirara bashed the boy (name withheld) who is doing Grade Four at a local school, accusing him of breaking a key. Said Chibvongodze:

Chirara was away when the boy reportedly broke the key. Upon her return, Chirara discovered that the boy had broken the key.

Chirara force-marched the boy into his room. She locked the door from inside and ordered the boy to take off his shirt. She took a fan belt and assaulted him several times on the back.

… Chirara was also in the habit of assaulting the complainant several times on different occasions using wooden sticks, dustpan and metal objects all over his body.

The boy sustained wounds due to the constant assaults and was taken to the hospital for medical examination.
