ZANU PF Activist "Bans" CCC T-shirts At Mpandawana

A feared ZANU PF activist in Gutu District, Mugove Mubaiwa, reportedly caused a commotion at Mpandawana Bus Rank on Thursday after he allegedly ordered a CCC supporter to remove a party T-shirt.

Mubaiwa, who was wearing a ZANU PF cap, reportedly instructed Edward Chagonda to remove his T-shirt or face the wrath of gangsters.

Chagonda told The Mirror that he now feared for his life following the threats.

He also alleged that Mubaiwa was known for perpetrating violence on opposition supporters in Gutu. Said Chagonda:

I now fear for my life after being threatened for wearing a party T-shirt.

It is allowed to wear a T-shirt and to support a party of your choice.

He threatened to hire boys to deal with me after I asked him to remove his cap as well.

However, Mubaiwa denied the allegations, saying he was being framed by Chagonda.

Mubaiwa lives in Hwiru at the Growth Point. He contested for the ZANU PF chairmanship for Gutu Central and lost the elections.

The incident comes barely eight months after ZANU PF vigilantes based at Mpandawana allegedly assaulted an opposition supporter, Nyasha Zhambe, resulting in his death a few weeks later.

Suspected ZANU PF activists mounted a roadblock just outside Mpandawana Growth Point in October 2021 and assaulted Zhambe who died on 26 November 2021 after spending weeks in hospital.

One of the suspected assailants, Busta Mafios a war veteran and special interest councillor at Mpandawana, died in a mysterious accident three months after the murder of Zhambe.

Mafios was the only passenger injured when the kombi he was travelling in burst a tyre and overturned.
