Invictus Energy has said will start drilling for gas at its Cabora Bassa oil and gas prospect by early September. Chairman of One Gas Resources, Paul Chimbodza said the drilling in Mbire may even start at the end of August.

Said Chimbodza:

We hope to spud by the end of the month or the first week of September. There’s still bits and pieces of equipment being brought in. We’re seeing a bit of delay but nothing of a red flag for us.

According to Invictus the drilling will be to a depth of 3.5 to 4 kilometers.

The actual drilling will be done by Exalo Drilling, a European onshore drilling contractor.

One Gas Resources exploration partner of West Perth, Australia, based Invictus Energy. Invictus Energy recently reported that the targeted prospects could hold in excess of 20 trillion cubic feet of gas. The price of gas is estimated at US $4 per thousand standard cubic feet (Mscf).

Eventual products to come from the project overall, if it succeeds, include diesel, petrol, paraffin, fertilizers, plastics, LP Gas, and waxes, among products. The timeline for actual products is not known as the project is still in the exploration phase.

It has been reported that if the project is a success it could potentially change the economic landscape for Zimbabwe and potentially stabilise the energy and electricity supply for the Southern African region.
