WATCH: Joana Mamombe Urges Police To "Act" On Assault Case

Harare West Member of Parliament, Joana Mamombe, (Citizens Coalition for Change) has urged the Zimbabwe Republic Police to act on an assault incident which allegedly happened in Matobo in Matabeleland South.

In a  video circulating on social media, two unidentified men are seen beating an elderly woman with sticks.

Speaking in Ndebele, the assailants suggest that the woman accused them of being thieves.

Responding to the video, Mamombe said:

I am appalled by such savagery, @PoliceZimbabwe please act. What kind of society are we becoming, a society that thrives on violence and abuse of women? This is unacceptable, these senseless people must be arrested.

According to Zenzele Ndebele, a CITE reporter, the woman engaged the services of the two to come and cleanse her home following the death of her husband. The two did some rituals and charged her five beasts. He reported:

Ngqabutho Sibanda claims to be a traditional healer. Neville Mpofu is the assistant (otsikamutanda). The woman who is being assaulted lost her husband in December 2022. In January 2023 she engaged the services of the two to come and cleanse her home following the death of her husband. The two did some rituals and charged her five beasts. She gave them the five beasts, second-hand clothes 7 metal roofing sheets, one wheelbarrow and one plank. They claim she later reneged on her promise.

According to Ndebele, the woman is 65 years old.
