Chombo Fraud Charges Withdrawn

Former Cabinet Minister Ignatius Chombo, who was being charged with fraud, is now a free man after the State withdrew the charges against him on Wednesday, 01 March 2023.

Chombo was accused of misappropriating a $14 billion Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Capital Expenditure loan which was meant to purchase farm equipment, reported The Herald.

The charges were withdrawn before plea when he appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Stanford Mambanje.

The former Finance Minister was being accused of having misappropriated the loan he acquired under the RBZ Other Crops and Livestock extended to him between October 2005 and January 2006.

In withdrawing the charges, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said investigations revealed that Chombo used the money as per the loan requirements.
