Minister scoffs at EU Air Zimbabwe ban, says it only affects two planes

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development has downplayed the fact that the European Union has banned Air Zimbabwe from flying to the EU due to safety concerns. Gumbo said that there was nothing unusual about the ban saying that the national airline was working on complying with the EU’s standards. He added that the ban only affected two planes.

In an interview, the Minister said:

It’s not anything unusual. Hapana nenyaya (It’s a non-issue). Air Zimbabwe went to the EU when it (EU) had published new conditions. It had two planes, 767s, and they were told to comply with the conditions.

…We are working on those conditions. 10 of them we passed but two of them we didn’t pass.

Some of them are that we are using manual for our records instead of computerising and that our radar system is sometimes not good enough, we are already working on them and we will go back fly.
