Reports from South Africa suggest that Zimbabwean first lady, Grace Mugabe will be granted diplomatic immunity. A South African government source who spoke to IOL said that they are planning to grant diplomatic immunity to Grace, allowing her to return to Harare and avoid prosecution for the alleged assault of Gabriella Engels, a 20-year-old model.
The source told IOL that there was “no way” Grace would be arrested for the alleged assault, but that the South African government expects to be challenged in court for granting of diplomatic immunity. Earlier this week Gabrielle Engels laid criminal charges against Mugabe, after claiming Mugabe assaulted her when she found her with her sons at a flat in Sandton. On Thursday Advocate Gerrie Nel said that would be representing her in her bid for justice.
